JEFFERSONVILLE, Ohio (July 1, 2026) – L-H Battery Company, Inc. has announced the start of lithium-ion battery cell mass production for energy storage systems (ESS) at the recently completed manufacturing facility in Jeffersonville, Ohio.

Established in 2023, L-H Battery is a joint venture of LG Energy Solution and Honda Motor Co. L-H Battery will produce advanced battery technologies for automotive and stationary power applications.

The first battery cells produced at L-H Battery will be packaged into energy storage systems by LG Energy Solution Vertech, the U.S. energy storage division of LG Energy Solution. These energy storage systems (ESS) are delivered to customers who use them in grid-scale and other strategic technology applications, including in residential homes, commercial and industrial operations and large-scale utility grids. ESS capture and store electricity created by traditional energy sources like oil and gas as well as renewables like wind and solar. Storing grid-scale electricity helps make the electrical grid more reliable and resilient by stabilizing output and compensating for fluctuations.

Speaking to associates at the company’s recent launch ceremony, L-H Battery CEO Chahun Ku said, “ESS is an important part of L-H Battery’s future, along with production of battery cells for application in hybrid-electric vehicles. We are proud of our associates for their hard work and flexibility to take on this challenge and launch these important products.”

As the market for battery cells continues to evolve, L-H Battery will remain flexible with its products and production.  Originally envisioned to begin mass production to supply battery cells for electric vehicles, (EVs), the plant already has demonstrated its agility by pivoting to support ESS as well as future production of hybrid-electric vehicle battery cells in North America.

“Nearly four years after the establishment of L-H Battery, it is gratifying to see the progress we’ve made together, from completing construction to establishing an entirely new workforce, and delivering meaningful economic benefits for the local Fayette County community,” said Rick Riggle, COO at L-H Battery. “We look forward to supporting the region as we start production and meet the needs of our customers and our community, now and into the future.”
